Appeal for Donations

Dear Sir/Madam,

  1. St.Martha’s Hospital, Bangalore was founded in 1886 in response to the need felt for caring for the stricken during a time of plague, drought and famine. For over 125 years, this deservedly well-reputed institution, owned and run by the Good Shepherd Sisters, has given the people of Bangalore, especially its less affluent and poorer sections, compassionate medical and nursing care of a truly professional standard, in a spirit of service and at reasonable rates, which is widely appreciated. The philosophy of loving compassion for the poor and the suffering animate the hospital’s functioning. It seeks to provide competent medical care in a spirit of service and free from a motive of profit to the people, in general without distinction of caste, creed or race. It has 534 beds for in-patient care.

  2. Through its Community Health Department, St.Martha’s Hospital has extended, well beyond its walls, the reach of its services to the sick and socially marginalized. The department now functions in five slums in and around Bangalore, which have an aggregate population of roughly 10000.  The Community Health Department also networks with other NGO’s. It runs the DOTS programme under the National Programme for T B Control at St.Martha’s Hospital.

  3. The hospital treats over 2,50,000 out-patients and 21,000 in-patients annually. Out of the 534 beds available for in-patients, 410 beds are ear-marked for General ward patients, who are given free/concessional treatment on case to case basis. For the benefit of patients the hospital is equipped with sophisticated equipment and instruments for undertaking the latest medical, obstetrical and surgical procedures. The hospital also has a unique Stroke Rehabilitation Centre, where a large number of out-patients and in-patients are treated and rehabilitated. The hospital also admits HIV/AIDS patients and treats them wit dignity and compassion.

  4. The hospital needs a large amount of finances to provide free/concessional treatment to the poor and needy and also to upgrade the medical and infrastructure facilities on a regular basis, to keep in-date. Since the financial resources of this charitable hospital are only its own earnings, which are just about sufficient for its running, it approaches you with an earnest appeal for a donation to the Hospital Building Fund. Your donation will go a long way in St.Martha’s providing the much needed patient-friendly facilities.

  5. Your contribution made will indeed be a blessing for the poor and marginalized. The contribution may be sent by Cheque/Demand Draft in favour of “St.Martha’s Hospital, Bangalore” or directly credited to SB A/c No.8407101001562, Canara Bank, St.Martha’s Hospital Extension, Bangalore MICR Code No. 560015099.
